Since prehistoric times the port of Exeter was known to traders who used a sandstone ledge to unload ships. During the Roman times Exeter becames an established port of great importance for the movement of cargo and people. Traders used to import olive oil and wine from the Mediterranean and the Vikings raiders knew how to navigate the River Ex.

The Exeter Heritage Harbour aims at preserving and give access to their rich maritime heritage by hosting traditional working vessels to represent this rich heritage.
