Frequently asked questions
How many people can the barge carry? Lynher barge is licensed to carry 12 passengers plus crew. Inside the cargo hold, the accommodation comprises of 10 berths divided into pipe cots and hammocks.
What about payment? You can easily book your voyage through our simple to use system above and pay for your adventure using credit/debit card. If you want to just pay a deposit then select to pay by Direct Bank Transfer (BACS) at checkout and transfer 25% of your total to our account. Remember the balance needs to be paid a minimum of 6 weeks before your booking date. If there are any problems with your booking, we will be in touch to discuss this with you.
Where does Lynher sail from? Lynher sails from different locations, depending on the nature of the voyage and weather conditions. You will receive a full set of joining instructions when you book a voyage. Our main points of departure and/or arrival are: Barnpool Beach at Mt.Edgcumbe Country Park, Royal William Yard or Mayflower Marina in Plymouth. Upriver we sail to and from Calstock.
Is food provided aboard? During day sails and river cruises we offer Cornish pasties, hot drinks and biscuits. You are otherwise welcome to bring a packed lunch. During residential voyages and courses we provide a choice of fresh food which we cook together aboard, pasta with a variety of sauces and freshly made pizza are a favourite!

Are children welcome? Children of all ages are very welcome, in fact we often deliver voyages as a family with our two (12 and 9 years old) and can cater for smaller people safety equipment down to toddler size.
How eco-friendly is the barge? On Lynher we try our best to be in tune with nature and sail as much as possible thus using the power of wind and tide to propel ourselves. Aboard are two bathrooms equipped with composting toilets so as to contain our waste and dispose of it in all respect of the environment. We recycle plastic and cardboard and our catering equipment is reusable and compostable. We try to avoid plastic objects, our cups are made of ceramic, wood and Bambu.
Are dogs allowed? Yes, if they are well behaved. We have our own barge-dog, Tazio, a real character. If you have any problems with dogs please let us know and we will keep him ashore for the day.
