Frequently asked questions

How many people can the barge carry? Lynher barge can carry 12 passengers plus crew. Inside the cargo hold, the accommodation comprises of 10 berths shared between pipe cots and hammocks.
Where do you sail from? We sail from different places, depending on the nature of the voyage and weather conditions. Our main points of departure and/or arrival are: Barnpool Bay at Mt.Edgcumbe Country Park, Royal William Yard in Plymouth or Mayflower Marina in Plymouth. Upriver we sail to and from Calstock and/or Cotehele.
Is food provided aboard? During  day sails and river cruises we offer a choice of sandwiches with salad garnish, dips and crudités, fruit & snacks for an additional cost of £8.50 per person, £5 for children under 12. You are otherwise welcome to bring a packed lunch. Hot drinks are available throughout the day. During residential voyages and courses we provide a choice of fresh food which we cook together aboard, pasta with a variety of sauces and freshly made pizza are a favourite!
If you have a special occasion and would like to reserve a meal of 2 or 3 courses, there will be an extra charge. We cook fresh meals based on a Mediterranean diet and use fresh produce grown locally. Please contact Barbara to discuss any special requirements.
Are children welcome? Children of all ages are very welcome, in fact we often deliver voyages as a family with our two (12 and 9 years old) and can cater for smaller people safety equipment down to toddler size. 
How eco-friendly is the barge? On Lynher we try our best to be in tune with nature and sail as much as possible thus using the power of wind and tide to propel ourselves. Aboard are two bathrooms equipped with composting toilets so as to contain our waste and dispose of it in all respect of the environment. We recycle plastic and cardboard and our catering equipment is reusable and compostable. We try to avoid plastic objects, our cups are made of ceramic, wood and Bambu.
Are dogs allowed? Yes, if they are well behaved. We have our own barge-dog, Tazio, a real character. If you have any problems with dogs please let us know and we will keep him ashore for the day.
